Who we are
form●works is an architecture and interior design practice working across India. We are small by choice. It lets us stay close to every drawing, every material, every detail, from the first site visit to handover. We do not arrive with a house already in mind. We read the site first, then design what belongs there.
The measure
What we believe
Most spaces are retrofitted. We work the other way around.
A style is usually chosen first, then forced onto a site. The land, the light, the way a family actually lives, these should set the brief instead. The result is a space that could not sit anywhere else, made of the details others skip.
How we work ● before we begin
No obligation, real thinking up front.
We listen. What you need, how you live, what you are hoping to feel.
Usually a call, sometimes a WhatsApp thread. We want to hear how you actually use the space you have now, and what you quietly work around every day. No drawings, no fee, no obligation at this stage.
We walk the site and understand its context, light, and constraints firsthand.
Where the light lands in the morning. Where the wind comes from. Which neighbour's wall you will be looking at for the next twenty years. Most of what shapes the design is settled on this walk, long before anything is drawn.
We present a direction with references and ideas, so you can see the thinking before you commit.
A direction, with references, a rough plan, and the reasoning behind both. You get to see how we think before you are committed to anything. If the direction is wrong, this is the cheapest possible moment to say so.
Once we begin ● end to end, closing on the relationship, not the invoice
A detailed brief that fixes scope and intent.
Scope, intent and budget, written down and agreed by both of us. It is the document the project is held to, and it is the reason the decisions that come later stay quick.
The design resolved in full.
Plans, sections, elevations and material selections resolved together rather than in sequence, so a finish is never chosen after the detail that has to carry it has already been fixed.
Good-for-construction documentation, made to build from.
Dimensioned, specified, and made to be built from rather than admired. A contractor should be able to price the set without calling us to ask what a line means.
On site, keeping the build true to the drawing.
Setting out, first fix, finishes. Drawings drift on site unless somebody is standing there holding them to the intent, and on our projects that somebody is us.
A finished space, and a relationship that stays.
Snags closed, everything working, and the drawings handed over as a record you keep. We close on the relationship, not on the invoice.
